Got this off iRodius today, and it seemed like a really fun way to avoid doing the dishes for about twenty minutes! It WAS! And I heard a few songs I hadn't heard in a while. Enjoy and play along if you wanna.

My Media Week
I got meme'd by the fabulous Kari over at Casual Heap, and I'm just now getting around to my list. I believe, if I read this thing correctly it's what I listened to, watched on tv and read this past week.
I'll start with my ipod.

I've taken my old mini out of retirement lately, because as much as I love my shuffle, sometimes a girl has to have control. And since my husband actually WROTE ME A SONG for Valentine's Day, I needed to listen to it more than once. (I got him a couple of books. I am so lame.) I also have some good housecleaning tunes on there, as well as some new faves from my buddy Stu at work. I don't have the new Sheryl Crow listed, but I got that for Charley for Valentine's Day and it's great, too.
As far as books go, I'm reading Saving Grandma by Frank Schaeffer
I just finished the first in that trilogy "Portofino", which was loaned to me, again, by my friend Stu. It's a very funny read. Next on my list is Where You Once Belonged by Kent Haruf, because I loved Plainsong and Eventide so much.
As for TV, thank God for Tivo, and the end of the Writer's Strike. But stuff we watch together? You could set your clocks by it.
There's Jeopardy! of course, and The Simpsons. After JH is asleep, there's also reruns of any of the Law & Order franchise: Law & Order: SVU, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and my favorite version, Law & Order: Mind Your Manners.
I tivo'd "That Thing You Do!" because of my huge crush on Steve Zahn, and they play music in it, so JH loved it.
Sigh. Seriously, isn't he just dreamy? Now if only he and George Clooney would do a family friendly musical.
Charley brought home Dexter, which we'll be watching soon. I don't think there's any singing, though.
That's it. FASKINATING, no? I tag Franklin, Stu, Rodius & Lisa

At The Moment
Lola tagged me this morning, and I'm glad, because even though I'm not signed up to do the blog a day thing, I like to keep up!
Wearing: Turquoise snowflake pj's, blue socks and big fluffy white robe
Hair: unfortunate
Makeup: smeared under my eyes
Last thing said: "I had a dream we got married again, and I put the wrong date on the invitation and all these people showed up but there was no caterer, so we rescheduled. We charged people $20 a head to come to the wedding. I was mortified, but you weren't mad at me."
Last phone call: to my sister to remind her of our brother's birthday party on Saturday.
In your bag: my orange emergency kit with bandaids and lipstick, my wallet, my staff badge and some tampons.
Plans for today: to do my best, then go to the staff happy hour after work, or just come home and hang out with my family.
Last thing bought: a silver lamé jumpsuit and silver bike helmet for Joe-Henry's alien costume, a huge rubber spider and a tee shirt (all at Goodwill)
Listening to: the sputter of the coffee maker
Last showered: yesterday morning (I'm not there yet today)
Looking forward to: going to Disneyland with my family for JH's birthday
Worst part of the day: I'll tell you about the worst part of the day yesterday, because I just woke up today. Three of the kids in our class are going to be attending a new school (my son's, in fact) because they had to find another place for them due to overcrowding of our class. I have a LOT of issues about this, first and foremost being that I truly worry about how they will do and how it will affect the kids. One of the girls in my group is going, and she is best friend's with one of the boys in my group. They love each other madly. When his autism gets really big, he talks incessantly, saying negative things, usually "I don't like.." But during calendar time, they mentioned that the three who will be attending the new school were on a field trip there yesterday, I looked over and he was just sitting there, with quiet tears streaming down his face. It broke my heart into a million pieces.
Best part of the day: snuggling at bedtime with JH, while he read to me.
Favorite person of the day: My husband and my son. Don't make me pick between the two.
Thinking about: the fact that I have to get ready for work and I'm doing this instead.
Current annoyance: that I need to drop my husband from my health insurance because it eats half my paycheck, and I think that sucks.
Current obsession: what color to paint my dining room.
Feeling: rushed, but glad it's Friday.
I tag Franklin, and Rodius.

7 Random Things About Me....
I was going to list five things that I love about my son today, because my pms is waning, and so is his, and he's being really sweet to me again. But I got tagged by Tracey over at More Than A Minivan Mom to list 7 Random Things You Don't Know About Me, and I thought, "Screw the kid. Let's give the people what they WANT! More about ME!"
Tracey also mentioned in her blog that technically these kinds of lists are called "memes", but it just doesn't sit right with her. I know! And that's the first random thing about me....
1. The word "meme" makes my skin crawl. It reminds me of an old lady with tight pincurls, who always brings a Lime Jello mold with mayonnaise, celery and pimentoes to the Lutheran Church luncheons and she smells like baby powder and old lady, and her lipstick is on her teeth.
2. You'd think from number one that I have a thing against mayonnaise, just like my friend Tracey. But you'd be WRONG, my friends. Honestly, this could qualify as the number one random thing, but the other just was a better lead in. In any case, my favorite comfort food is.... (Tracey - you really shouldn't read this unless you're sitting near a wastebasket) Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich with mayonnaise. I don't eat it often, just when I'm feeling really awful about life. My mom used to make (Tracey, have you recovered from the last one? Then really, just skip down to number three and don't read this. I don't want to bear the burden....) Peanut butter and BROWN SUGAR AND MAYONNAISE sandwiches on Wonderbread. My mom, rest her soul, was actually a great cook, but she was raised during the depression, and they did what they could with what they had. Or she just really wanted me to die of a heart attack at ten years old.
3. I had a best friend in highschool who turned out to be kind of a psycho. We became best friends after her old boyfriend and I broke up. We hung out all the time, we even got the same summer job, and she applied to go to the same college as the one I was going to attend. When the old boyfriend and I started to become good friends again, she started telling me about a friend of hers that she wanted to set me up with, telling me what he looked like, what kind of music he listened to. He wrote me letters (telling me what an amazing girl my friend was), and even sent me flowers for my highschool graduation. We were supposed to meet, and my friend kept telling me that she had a bad feeling, that something was going to happen. I went to see her one morning and she had a huge cut on her hand where she had broken a glass in the night because she had a "vision" that her friend had been in a car wreck. Then later she told me her vision had come true, and he had died. I put it all together and realized that she had made it all up. I wound up in the hospital with an ulcer at 18 because I didn't really know who to tell or what to do. I didn't see her after that because I was really afraid of what she'd do.
4. I have an addiction to pulling weeds. I love how it feels, I love the sound of the weeds being ripped from the ground, I can completely lose myself in it.
5. I understudied for the first production of London Suite by Neil Simon at the Seattle Repertory Theater. During tech, I would sit in the audience in the dark and listen to him talk about writing and actors and theater and I knew my life was as good as it would get. He kissed me on the cheek once in a very fatherly way and he smelled really good.
6. As wonderful as it was to get kissed by Neil Simon, the smell I love the most is my son's breath in the morning. I can't get enough. It's better than expensive aftershave, new puppy smell, new car smell, and WAY better than peanut butter and jelly with mayo.
7. I have an irrational fear of being thrown from crazy rollercoaster rides. I still go on them, but only after sitting down with my inner therapist. This is different from my very rational fear of throwing up on the crowd below.
That's my seven. It was hard to come up with them, because, you know, I'm so together. For a girl who was raised on mayonnaise and peanut butter. It's hard to believe that ever last artery, vein and capillary isn't clogged with cement.
I tag Big Mama, Kimberly, Anne, Lolabola, & Donna. You're supposed to tag 7, but I don't think there are 7 people who read my blog, and of those Tracey tagged me AND Franklin, and Suttonhoo is coming here for a visit tonight, so I'll get 7 wierd things out of her in person after a glass or three of red wine! Feel free to join in the fun, even if you aren't on the list!

7 songs? Just 7? How 'bout 7 categories of 7.....
I used to be incredibly decisive. I am a Leo after all, and I'd make up my mind lickety-split with no hemming & hawing or regret. But 16 years living with a Libra (our first shopping excursion was for work boots and it took 3 hours. That's not 3 hours start to finish, it's 3 hours deciding over 2 different pairs of boots - if we hadn't just started dating, I might have wrapped my tiny hands around his neck and throttled him right then and there), it's rubbed off on me. I am no longer that split second decision maker that I once was. Well, I can be, if it's life or death, but over things like favorite flavors, or movies or SONGS? THOSE ARE THE MERE BACKGROUND OF MY LIFE!!! How can I be expected to choose? Thank GOD I didn't have more than one child - how would I ever pick which one I loved the most?
I've been tagged by my buddy Tracey over at More Than A Minivan Mom to come up with my favorite 7 songs. So I've decided to break it down a bit. I'm going to do 7 categories, with 7 songs each. That's 7 songs for each of my 7 personalities. I could do more (there are more personalities in there, struggling to bust free), but my most dominant personality likes order and the number 7, so she wins.
Favorite 7 songs to clean house to:

I Feel So Good by Richard Thompson
Red Clay Halo, sung by Gillian Welch and David Rawlings

tag, part two
ACK! While I was in the shower, (I know, it's mid-afternoon, why am I so lame?), I thought of more movies I love!
Here they are:
Network, Broadcast News, Living Out Loud (the last two with Holly Hunter at her best), and for fall on your ass funny The Tall Guy with Jeff Goldblum and Emma Thompson. Best. Sex. Scene. Ever.
Over and out.

I do love a good game of tag...
...especially if I can sit on my ass while playing. In my past life (pre-Joe-Henry), my hubby and I were quite the movie goers. Not necessarily Cinephiles, but movie goers. We'd see the big blow-em-up-good movies, along with the required if you're going to be a hooty-patootie-film -buff Foreign Films.
Here is my list of my 12 favorite films. Or as Ms. Suttonhooput it so well, my top twelve stick to my ribs films. These are films that stay with me, that even mark some milestones in my life.
1. Ponette. A French film about a little girl who loses her mother and how she copes. The most amazing children in this film. I cried my eyes out. Having lost my mother at a young age, this film came at me like a hurricane. I've never seen it again, but I want to.
2. Singin' In The Rain. I had a HUGE crush on Gene Kelly when I was a girl, and the dance numbers are so much fun. It's been a fun one to introduce Joe-Henry to. He loves "Moses Supposes".
3. The Goodbye Girl. Can't be beat for pure shmaltz. It was a seminal film for me in terms of my wanting to be an actress. I thought Richard Dreyfuss was sooooo sexy. (My taste has changed a bit, but I still like 'em smart, funny and sassy).
4. That Thing You Do! Another cheesy one, but it's where I developed my insane crush on Steve Zahn. Plus the peppy music can't help but put a smile on your face.
5. Sunset Boulevard. So crazy, so Hollywood, so beautifully shot.
6. Les Diabolique. I saw this on tv when I was about 11 or 12 and it sooooo thoroughly creeped me out. I LOVED it. The first time I went to Paris, I visited the grave of Simone Signoret and Yves Montand. I'll never forget the guy in the bathtub. Yikes.
7. Waiting For Guffman. As an aging theater whore, this one did me in. I have a hard time watching it now, but for all the right reasons. "Bastard People!" I haven't seen "For Your Consideratio" yet, but I plan to. Christopher Guest is my hero. (Like I've said before, girls love the funny!)
8. Out of Sight. George Clooney & Jennifer Lopez. This only makes my list because George Clooney is such a dreamy dreamboat in his dark suit. Oh, dear God. I've ruined my panties.
9. O Brother Where Art Thou. If it weren't enough that he's so damn handsome, he's FUNNY. We really started getting into bluegrass music after this movie. The soundtrack is amazing.
10. Time Indefinite. A documentary by Ross McElwee about family and life and death. You know, just frivolous stuff. My boyfriend at the time took me to see it, and it affected us both pretty deeply. Shortly after that, he asked me to marry him. I said yes, and the rest is history.
11. Anne of Green Gables with Megan Follows. Another orphan movie. Cried my stinkin' eyes out.
12. It's a tie between Little Miss Sunshine & The 40 Year Old Virgin. I fell in love with Steve Carell when he was in Anchorman. I really didn't like that movie, but I thought he was brilliant and so funny I hurt myself. In L.M.S. he's so vulnerable and funny, and T.40Y.O.V., he's just so sweet. When we lived in L.A., I saw him at the Grove (it was right after Anchorman), and he was there hanging out with his kids, and I was hanging out with JH. It was Christmastime, and we were listening to some guys singing, and I was standing THIS CLOSE to him. He seemed like a good dad and a nice guy. So, I sort of fell in love with him.
That's it for now. Although I think I'll have to come back with Joe-Henry and we can do his 12 favorite films of all time. I'm pretty sure Ice Age: The Meltdown will be on there. He's watching it now, spilling Nerds all over my freshly cleaned floors. Sigh. What I wouldn't give for a night out at the movies.
I'd tag someone, if I knew them well enough to know it wouldn't bum them out. Franklin, if you're up to it.... you're it!
