In Other Newth...

Joe-Henry lost another tooth yesterday, this one located on the bottom, next to his front bottom teeth. It's been hanging by a thread for days, and I was relieved that it happened at home, and it wouldn't be distracting him (and everyone else at school). Last night, after bath time, I found him in his pj's in bed, feverishly writing a note to the tooth fairy, which read:

"Dear Tooth Fairy, Here is a dime for you because you often don't get paid for your bisness. Love Joe-Henry"

It was on Pirates of the Caribbean note paper, and he decorated it with hearts.

The tooth fairy took the dime, but I'm pretty sure the note was worth more to her.

Tooth Fairy to Strike?

In a rare move, workers for the Tooth Fairy, Local IBSWW (International Brotherhood of Shiny-Winged Workers) are considering a strike. "We've been working overtime, especially our workers in the Northwest" said one worker, who asked to remain anonymous. "First there was this kid Joe-Henry, lost a tooth last night, we made the delivery, then BAM, he loses another one this morning! Plus, this kid has a friend, lives in Seattle, and this little girl lost HER tooth last night too. And these are FRONT teeth we're talkin' about. Do you know how much heavier those are? I'm tellin' ya, I think they're just trying to break the bank! Plus, we're runnin' low on Fairy Dust."

A spokesperson for Joe-Henry and his friend Hazel, identified only as Mom, said this: "These claims are ridiculous. Kids lose their teeth. That's what they do. They can't help it if it all happens at the same time. While we understand the stress that the demand for Fairies in recent nights has placed on the Northwest Chapter, we hope they will reconsider. Children rely on them. They supply a great service - magic and wonder, and there is precious little of that in this world we live in. We hope they will at least meet us halfway."

We'll be monitoring the situation, and keep you posted.

toothless

My love, my sweet little boy, lost his front tooth today. It wasn't his first tooth to come out, but it was the one that I knew would change him. His face changed so much when he went from toothless baby to baby with teeth, and now it's changing again. I noticed tonight too, that he's getting a little more flesh on him, something that happens before a growth spurt. I'm anticipating those growing pains for him, but this time, too, I'm anticipating the growing pains for myself, as well.

The ground seems to be shifting under my feet, and I need to accomodate that. I'm not sure how that's going to happen, but I know I will need to brace myself for whatever the change will be. I feel really uncertain about everything right now. I don't know if that's hormones, or if it's something happening in my marriage. Maybe it's both. Wouldn't that just suck? Sometimes, I feel just plain crazy, but I also remember that saying "I may be paranoid, but it doesn't mean they're not out to get me."

I'm just going through an incredibly hard time right now. I don't lay it at the feet of my husband - I can claim much of the blame myself. I can also say with conviction, that this time of life with all it's blessings, leaves me feeling crazed and completely not myself. The only thing I can hang on to is that I know it won't last forever. And the one certainty in all of it is that I love the little light that's sleeping directly upstairs as I type this. I'll do my best not to put it all on him - my dad did that to me, and it was a lot of responsibility for a kid. But that said, I have a beautiful reason to figure this all out and do my best.

And he's missing his front tooth.
