I'm Not Getting Old, It's Just Weird

I read somewhere that old people become obsessed about the weather, that they watch the Weather Channel for fun, and they turn up the volume during the weather report on the news.

But don't pack my things and send me to the home, please, when I tell you this:

It's. Snowing.

Oh, did you catch the date at the top of this post? If not, let me mention: It's APRIL TWENTIETH.

AND WE DON'T LIVE IN MINNESOTA.

WTF?!!!

I'm sorry to have to say that I rejoice in our mutual crappy snow weather. I hate feeling so alone.

Wait... shhhhh. I hear a voice, faint and distant.

Yes... yes, it's Mother Nature! She's trying to tell you something.

Let's all be very quiet and listen closely, and see if we can decipher the message...

"Goooooo... to Texas. Muuuuuuch sunshine there."

Well, you heard the lady. Pack your bags!

Lola, I'm glad I was able to help out.
Amber, it tried and succeeded here - nothing stuck, but man, it's cold.
Franklin, don't think it hasn't crossed my mind.

Huh. I thought it rained 24 hours a day in the Northwest, and remained a constant 54 degrees, even in August.

What's funny is that Franklin heard "move to Texas" (and do not, I repeat, do NOT let her convince you that Dallas is cooler than Austin. It's so not.) but all I thought was "I'm so envious".

I miss snow.
I really do.
Texas is not all that, weatherwise. No matter what Franklin says.

Okay, okay... in the interest of full disclosure, I will admit that Texas runs a pretty poor show of the weather most of the time.

You can take me back to sweet home Chicago almost any day of the year, and I'm an exceptionally happy camper... except in April.

Because in April, Texas is in full, glorious bloom. You can wear shorts, but we're not in swelter mode yet.

And although the rare tornado passes through, it's still better than old, dirty snow, clumped around the gutters.

But hey, let's compromise: just come VISIT Texas. And I'll return the favor in August, when the mercury here climbs past two hundred degrees.

Deal?

I feel your pain babe. We had our first actual really nice springy kind of day on Saturday--mid 70s, low wind. Seriously, the FIRST of the year. And though we seem to have finally broken through the temperature issue, there is a 40% chance of rain every day this week. But at least no snow. Finally. We did have snow flurries just 9 days ago though.

Hang in there, because I am pretty sure that spring actually has to show up some time. I think it's the law. Right? Please???

Oh yeah, and I'll know you're old not when you're watching the weather channel but when you're discussing, in obsessive detail and to the exclusion of all other conversation, the health, or ill health, of yourself and everyone you know. Then you'll definitely be old.

I'm sorry Annie. This too will pass. Its all very well for me to say that, living in Hawaii and all..but we're dealing with another problem...terrible VOG (the stuff that the Volcano blows out) which is like a dense layer of smoggy, cloudy stuff (sulphuric acid) that makes us all start coughing, sneezing and wheezing. Its hideous. When the trade winds finally decide to come back, the VOG will be blown away....until then....give me some clean white snow anyday..

Annie, out here in Calgary, we have a foot of snow and it's minus 20 with windchill. I think the city is lapsing into a depression.
